To the editor:
We are writing in support of the candidacy of Emily Martz, who is seeking the nomination of the Democratic Party in her bid to unseat Republican Elise Stefanik in the 21st District election in November. Drawing upon an extensive background in economic development and management experience as director of operations and finance with the Adirondack North Country Association, Emily is committed to the expansion and success of our region’s businesses and the fulfillment of our economic needs and opportunities in ways that benefit us all. She plans to achieve this not only by working closely with people but, equally important, by listening to them.
To that end, Emily has logged close to 50,000 miles over the course of her campaign, crisscrossing the 21st Congressional District from one end to the other, personally connecting with her potential constituents to establish her legitimacy as their representative. She wants them to know — firsthand — of her commitment to their concerns and well-being.
Emily Martz lives among us, knows us and is one of us. And she most assuredly knows how to represent us. The same, we feel, cannot be said of Elise Stefanik, who, in light of her voting record — in particular, her voting on the environment — does not so much represent us as the agenda of her political party and, by extension, Donald Trump.
That, in our estimation, makes all the difference.
